I was on my afternoon walk and talking some things over with God when it suddenly hit me. We usually talk about spending eternity with Him as a future event. But really…we are already spending eternity with Him. It started the moment we accepted Jesus as our savior. From that moment on we will NEVER be without God in our lives. Guaranteed. It is not that we WILL spend eternity with God, but we ARE spending eternity with Him. Every step I make, every decision, everything in my life is in relationship with my Father. He truly does walk with us through every part of our journey. Thinking of my eternity with Him in present tense makes Him seem so much more present in my life. I am never alone. I do nothing without His presence in my life. I am His child forever more. He is all I will ever need and He is not going anywhere and will never change up on me. Safe and secure for all of eternity.
So many dont follow Jesus or the bible because it tells them they cant do all these things that they really want to do. He never says you cant do them. He says He doesnt want you to. Jesus died for our sins, and as the bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:23: “You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’—but not everything is good for you. You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’—but not everything is beneficial.” He doesnt want you to do them because they will harm you. He isnt a God of “because I said so”. He is a protector. He wants you to behave in a way that benefits you and He knows the way. He doesnt want us to be obedient to fulfill some pride filled “I have rule over you” type mentality. Jesus is humble and kind. The law isnt there to provide a way to prove your salvation or to earn your salvation. The law is there to protect you from harm and an unhealthy life. We live for Him and His way because we learn we can love and trust Him. Like when a trainer tells you how to work out and eat to lose weight. You can trust that what they tell you will give you the promised results if you are obedient to it. Yes, you can fully believe Christ is your saviour, yet never live for Him. When you do that you are truly missing out on the power afforded to you by putting full trust in Him and knowing His way is right. God made the law. Jesus provided a way for us to be forgiven for falling short of obeying the law, but He did not take the law away. It is there to help, guide, and be beneficial to us all. Be willing to let go of what is holding you back. Ask Jesus to transform your rebellious spirit into an obedient heart. Before long you will see the changes. You will appreciate the changes and wonder why you held on to the other stuff for so long. Jesus doesnt want to order you around. He wants you to come to the Father willingly. He wants you to see how you can trust Him with all your heart. On the solid rock you stand. All other ground is sinking sand. May Christ be with you all, Amen
With all that is going on lately I find myself getting angry a lot. I even find myself disliking people over it. I have been praying for the peace we are offered as followers of Christ. I have been reciting “God turns all bad to good for those that love Him” to try to make myself feel better. But you never feel better if you don’t truly believe it. And you can’t truly believe it if you don’t understand why you can believe it. This morning was my “aha” moment. That moment God impresses His word on your heart one more time and you finally understand. God doesn’t allow evil to exist without reason. All of this is to fulfill a purpose. His purpose. Why should I be angry at something that He is allowing to fulfill His purpose. Just because I don’t understand it doesn’t mean I should get angry at it. I don’t understand why He stops the ocean where He does. I don’t understand why He makes a sunrise and sunset so amazingly beautiful. He certainly doesn’t need my understanding to do His work and I don’t need to understand His reasoning to trust Him. I know God is good. He is love. God will not allow the storm to rage one second longer than required to fulfill His purpose. This is why we can live without fear. This is why we can live with peace. This is why we don’t have to be the loudest in the room. We simply live as the word directs and trust in Him. Simple. It is the enemy that complicates things. So, when we feel the anger build, and we feel the complications of life start to weigh us down…remember the simplicity that is our Saviour. Remember His offer in Matthew 11:28-30: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Receive His offer and live in restful peace. Oh, how He loves us! Put your trust in Him today and everyday!
“Im not gonna claim that!” Yet it happens anyway. “Don’t put that out in the universe!” Yet it wouldn’t have mattered whether you voiced it or not. “Pray with bold faith!” Well, you did and it didn’t come to pass like you wanted it to. Yes, God calls us to pray to Him. But why, if its God’s will be done anyway, why even bother praying? So, what’s the point? The point is attitude. The point is perspective. The point is hope. God wants us in constant conversation with Him so we always remember He is there. So we always remember that yes, it is God’s will in all things, which is great because God’s will is not to harm but to prosper us. Every tear will be wiped clean and every challenge is just a season. Some longer than others. Why do we pray? Why do we think of all things positive? So we keep a positive attitude along the way. So our perspective is on God and how much we can trust Him. That bad thing didnt happen to you because you “put it out to the universe”. It just happened. And sometimes we won’t know why on this side of heaven. That good thing didn’t pass you by, or your loved one didn’t die because you didn’t pray bold enough. It just happened that way. It just did. But praying boldly gave you hope. It kept you connected to the One that loves you and knows what is best for you. And that loved one that died anyway…they just went home, and their going to be right there when it is your turn to go home, too. Take the pressure off yourself. God already has your life planned out. Do what he commands in prayer so you protect your attitude and perspective and hope. There are times God will answer a prayer very specific to how you prayed it, but just because He doesn’t answer them all that way doesn’t mean He isn’t listening. Prayer is a powerful, life giving act. It shows obedience. But most of all, it shows where your heart truly is and creates a relationship with your Father. He wants to hear you admit to it all. He wants every question, every doubt, and every plea. He has not forsaken you. Whatever you are going through may not feel good but trust that HE is good…all the time. Even when it hurts. Even when it didn’t go the way you wanted. This too, shall pass. Pass through it in prayer.
Lord, in Your name I speak over this virus and the fear and panic it has caused. You say resist the devil and he has no choice but to flee. Where You are he has no power. He is a conquered foe. I speak in complete faith and reliance on Your promise that You are in control of this. Ask not, have not…so I ask of You to release this fear, to renew in us a new spirit Lord, to remind us that You take care of the birds in the sky and You hold us even higher than them. What can man or virus do unto us when we have You? I am thankful that You will take every bad circumstance of this virus and use it for Your good. Im thankful that I dont have to sit back and worry constantly knowing that You have promised to provide my needs. I pray this over everyone out there that they turn their hearts towards You so they can live in the same confidence that You have given me that I have NOTHING to fear. That I am to worry over NOTHING. Thank you Lord for easing anxiety, depression, worry and fear. Thank You Lord that this virus will clear out quickly and not a speck will be left behind. I thank you Lord that all tragedies will turn to blessings and people see You and Your good work through all of this. I pray for the lost Lord that are living in such fear over this. I pray for those trying to rely on their own strength and finding ways of comforting themselves without turning to You. I thank you that You are right there waiting for them with open arms. I ask forgiveness and thank You for Your grace when I fall short of the trust and faith I know to always have in You. We love You Lord, we trust You. Thank You for not forsaking us. In Christ name I pray, Amen
Does conviction scare you? It used to scare me, too. I used to read bible verses and feel it and think “oh great, here is something else I do wrong. Just another thing that makes me a big ol disappointment.” I am forever grateful that God kept showing me His love and giving me words of encouragement thru sermons and bible studies. I am forever thankful that God answered my prayers for wisdom and to understand Him better. Now when I feel conviction I push aside condemnation and become excited for the next change God is going to make in me. When I felt condemned I felt that I was the one that had to change it. I worried over it. Tried with my own might to change. Then I learned more and more about how God really works. About how much He really loves me. And as long as I keep my heart turned towards Him and practice my faith in Him fully trusting Him, then change comes on its own. Do you know your Father like that? In this world we learn it is hard to trust people. But God is not people. Learn Him. Love Him. And you will find your joy in His conviction as well.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
